For example: BEACON SIGNAL  #22

Recent brain research has produced some amazing findings - kids brains apparently work differently than their parents. For the first time in history, our children's brains are wired in a new way, especially in the visual cortex.

Living in a digital world since birth has developed better and different parallel processing, graphic awareness, and random access skills in our offspring. They not only think differently, they process material in a new way, which is surprisingly sophisticated. Their minds are growing in a non-linear, light- and sound-based, digital culture that enables them to act fast, respond to visuals first, and make many connections at once.

Researcher, Eric Jensen et al, has estimated that there are 87% visual learners in any given classroom...!! In other words he believes only 13% of today's students are auditory, text-based learners. Now those percentages should make us stop and think about how we teach, both in schools and post-secondary institutions....

Three must-have books for parents and teachers over 30:
  • A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink
  • Everything Bad is Good For You by Steven Johnson
  • NetSavvy by Anita Dosaj, Ian Jukes, and Bruce Macdonald
