Whether you work on magazine articles,
non-fiction, or novels, you must be able to write
query letters that captivate editors/agents and
result in an invitation to submit more of your work.
How to Craft Irresistible Query
Letters that Result in Publication teaches participants to find the
"marketing slant" for their work-in-progress and
how to write a compelling hook that draws editors to read
further. Using an animated PowerPoint presentation, examples, resources, and a unique
questionnaire, students identify the essential components and
style for each type of letter and start to develop key paragraphs of their own
query. The workshop also covers query packages, editing tips,
and how to do follow-ups. Collectively the group provides
constructive criticism of participants' drafts and later
discusses the art of the oral query, always a possibility...! (For Julie's article on queries, click
here; for her bio,

Writers like these find the
presentation
enables them to write
concise, powerful,
and effective query letters for any genre and reduce their rejection rates.
Here are some of their comments:
"Julie's presentation on Saturday was Crafting Irresistible Query
Letters. It was done PowerPoint style and, unlike many, wasn't
boring. She interacted with the audience, and had booklets and
handouts giving us many valuable tips.
We'd recommend Julie as a presenter because, not only is she very
knowledgeable and well prepared, but she is personable and easy for
organizers to work with."
Barb Rees, President and organizer, Powell River Festival of Writers,
April 2008
"Answered all the questions creative
writing...professors can't!!" "[Leery of Queries?] impressed me with the amount of
great info..." "Liked your handouts...."
"...a tremendous amount of useful information...." "Professional but friendly, delightful presence. Flexibility in answering
questions and gearing [it] to the fiction majority...." "Incredibly helpful! More so than...anything I learned in my university
writing program."
Connections, Pacific Northwest Writers' Association, WA, USA, June 2007
"I wish to thank you for your great advice via your
book,
Crafting Irresistible
Query Letters. I sent out query letters to 11 publishers and so far
have received 5 responses...."
Allan Forest, September 2005
I wanted to thank you for the class on Saturday

sharing all your expertise in such a wonderful, encouraging way. I learned
so much and it's all been very helpful. I had a big breakthrough today
